I Like New Toys

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

This month has seen its fair share of new stuff going on here. First is the new EMU edition that is out with the first iteration containing 0.0 content. Since it’s release we have had only 1 download :( compared to the 42 downloads on the 3798 edition. We need to get the word out on this tool, so far everyone that has tried a version of it seems to like it and it replaces many of the tools/spreadsheets they are currently using.

Our development shop has been working on some cool toys for the EDK customers we have. A new round of mods are in the works which include:

  • Image Mod – This allows you to upload pics on each kill for extra bragging rights.
  • Gallery Mod – Admin can create galleries on the board for viewing pleasure.
  • Ransom Board Mod – nuff said

Each of these are under different cycles and will be released in beta mode once they are ready.  The teams do not have ETA’s just yet so keep your eyes here for any updates.

General Update

Saturday, June 26th, 2010

So I finally got a chance to sit down and do some blogging again, however short-lived it will be. Seems I have another long week of travel ahead before I can settle back into a routine.

I have noticed since PI came out prices of Caldari T2 ships seem to have dropped. Hoping to increase my margins a bit I shipped 11 Falcons out to NC space last week, so far 1 has sold. Jita has been kind on moving my product, but at the lower prices so only half victory there.

I haven’t been in the loop with market changes, but it seems when I bought 2 months of POS fuel the other day it cost a lot more than it use to. Anyone care to explain what I missed there?

Also for anyone thinking of building the mighty Oynx and selling it, that doesn’t work very well. I jumped off the deep end on it and over 1 week only 1 out of 4 sold in Jita, and I have been lowest price a lot of the time. Bad news, I got 6 more BPC’s of that to cook, I think I will wait those out a bit, or just sell the prints.

Hosting business has been quite slow lately, in the last 30 days I have had 1 new forum account. I think once this next round of Falcons sell I will be sending some isk to Roc for a advertisement round. I had talked with him about it a while ago, but been slammed by requests from the contest we ran I didn’t have time to see it all the way, now I need it more than ever.

Larz and Nam now have completed all skills required to build my line of products, so they are both back on PVP training. I also bought my first ever set of +5 implants and Larz got those installed promptly. Some people (who don’t PVP a lot) might not understand the time lapse on that, but from a PVP side, since you can’t unplug implants at will (and save them) we tend to keep our clones empty or at best like +3/+4 implants.

Larz is racing towards a carrier now, not that I really need one, but I like options, Nam is generally rounding out some trainings I needed to get done and been holding out on.

I was also noticing no one has bothered with my poll, do I just not have readers anymore or is the poll broke?

EMU UPDATED – 3781.16 ADDED

Sunday, May 9th, 2010

Fixed:

  • Lots of thread deadlocks corrected.

New:

  • EveAPI Status page. This lists out every EVE API call registered to EMU, when it ran last, when it’ll run again and the last status.
  • Status bar on the main form shows the currently updating EVE API call as it is happening as well as a small progress bar for the formulas.
  • Industry Jobs shows player & corporate jobs. “All Characters & Corporations” works as well.

Known issues:

  • Industry Jobs checkboxes do not refresh as jobs update. (Completed jobs will not be removed when they are completed, and “My Characters” will not be updated if you add the necessary API keys). Rechecking a checkbox will refresh the entire list.
  • POS Listing may or may not select the first Corporation the first time it is loaded. Simply reselecting the Corporation from the list will cause the form to finish loading.

You can download the update from here.

Why I Like EMU

Sunday, April 25th, 2010

Simple, by just adding everything I can build I can easily see what will net me the most money and it takes into account my build and invention costs.

This is just one of the many reasons I like this tool. Do you use any tools for invention and production? Care to share them, I want to see what all is out there.

Invention Update

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

Wow I have been super busy. Thanks to having part BPO’s for my falcons now, and getting Larz to PE 5 my falcon profit has gone up here is some data for those inclined:

That is EMU at it’s finest. Now the number isn’t quite true just yet. Some of my part runs are across multiple BPOs so there are minor adjustments to the run times and the line costs not included, but as you can see it is quite nice.

Currently I have 3 falcons that will be done today, and the parts for 3 more will be done late tomorrow. I tell you it really isn’t worth building these things unless you have the part BPOs researched and PE 5. My next big move will be to get a POS setup to help with things, but I want to make like 30 of these things a month before I roll out the POS.

Also once I nail down this process and understand exactly how much effort is required I might be upgrading to nighthawk building as well, but that is latter on. Right now I cannot even make copies of the blackbirds for invention. Thankfully Mode is assisting in that department until my POS is up and going.

As Mode was quick to point out I didn’t account for invention costs, image is now updated.

OMG What Have I Done

Monday, April 19th, 2010

After having several beers and reviewing our latest build process with Mode, I heard Nam say something no one was expecting:

[03:50:48] Namroc Smith > when you get the right process this building is actually a bit fun

Was my ears broken? Nam the pirate actually said invention was fun???

Well I will say it has gotten a lot better thanks to Mode for the lessons, and for EMU. If you haven’t had the pleasure of using this great tool you need to check it out right now and then send Modescond isk for building it.

Any support issues with EMU you can join the ingame mailing list EVE_MANUF_UTIL he also sends out notices on updates.

I have gotten to play with the un-released version, it is nice.  To put it in ISK my per Falcon profit went from 5m to 18.4m, most due to errors in my process EMU help point out.  For the seasoned builder it is a nice double check and profit finder, for the new builders (like myself) it is a teacher.
