I Am Getting Rusty

Sunday, August 29th, 2010

Last night I was back in HS putting jobs in the lab when the call came out for a 0.0 roam.  After just jump cloning back up I didn’t see the point in coming back down until it was clarified that the scout and several members were drunk, ok i’m in.

After wasting a good set of +4′s I was back in 0.0 shipless.  Thankfully the drunk scout had an extra drake laying around so I was set.  Roam was very quite (from the target perspective) 30 jumps done in quick fashion.  We did get to pickup some extra members coming down the pipe from their HS carebear activities.  Finally we ended up in Fade attempting to fight several vaga’s and a falcon.  I would recount better details of the engagement if I could remember them, too many drunks yelling.  Needless to say we died in glorious battle, and fun was had.

We started with messing with a gang in HHK, we lost an Arazu and a drake to a Stiletto, 5 Vaga’s, and a Falcon. Then the fight jumped into DO6H-Q where we lost our Deimos and our Eagle. We did take down a Rook that joined the fight and we all swear the Stiletto bit it (we can even see the pod involved in a KM), but the actual mail is lost so it is a fishing story. After that we hit the GTFO button and almost made it. Sar was a bit slow on the gate and got caught by the Stiletto and he went pop. The rest of the fleet had warped away, but in true fashion we returned to the battle. That resulted in the loss of Ishtar, and our remaining 3 Drakes (1, 2, 3).  The best part is that our non-drunk scout fit a simple ship out after his loss and he jumped right back into the fight with his Thorax, best part it only had a MWD and that was it!

Caracal

This is a fit I am going to take down to 0.0 with me next time.  It is tanked for the rats there and seems fun, I really like the range, that is the real key to the tank.

General Update

Sunday, July 11th, 2010

So I have officially pulled out of Caldari invention for the time. After reviewing margins in EMU they aren’t what they use to be and that means time for a change. I finished my last 2 Manticores and I put the rest of my prints on Jita contract, shame they were some good ones (4 x 5 run Nighthawk and a 5 run Vulture). I still have 2 3 run Bustards which I will cook off once profits are back.

I took a dive off the deep end and stuck all my isk into a batch of Vaga inventions. My first 6 are cooking now and I have another 12 waiting for parts. Given their prices seem to stay constant right now (even spiking) I think this will be a good direction until things shuffle again.

I have started putting Nam back into combat training again, which means he is not long to stay in Larz Corp. Given my 2 choices for PVP being the hounds within the alliance or back to 0.0 I think I am going to send him back to 0.0, I base this choice only on one thing: I don’t know how long Nam can stay in combat and I don’t want another sec status grind to deal with should I need him in HS again. While the hounds fly more of the style I like (gotta love LS pirating) the sec hit is too much of a factor for a short term PVP run.

I am also counting (dreading) the days until I rip the tower down. With the increase in POS fuel prices it doesn’t make sense to run a tower for 2 people with my margins as tight as they are now and with Nam moving on one person is not worth having a tower up. I am down to 1 month fuel bank and the 2.5 weeks in there now then the thing comes down. Should be nice, the sale of the tower and labs should net enough to fund the rest of the Vaga builds.

Nam is in a bit of a pickle, he has “enough” combat skills to be quite effective, but there are some specialty areas he could use some focus on:

  • T2 Large Hybrids
  • T2 Sentry & Heavy Drones
  • Interdictors & Heavy ones
  • Logistics Ships
  • Command Ships
  • T2 Missiles

Yet the 0.0 corp I am going to send him to has 2 sides, when they roam they roam hard and are very effective, yet the down time is spent in corp mining ops and plex running. The latter Nam is good with, but mining is epic fail atm. So I think that Nam is going to need to get to Hulk level and support skills and then start focus on the PVP stuff.  The good news about the PVP will be you can expect to see more of those interesting ship fits we use to run here.

Hosting has been fun, we did our first install of the API bridge for PHPBB, from what I hear it is going well.  Things have been a bit slow and we are about to drop some accounts for payment issues.  It kinda stinks there is a good bit of isk in the collections bucket I hate to leave, I wish people were a bit more responsive if they wanted to drop services.  We also have another update to the KB’s to do so I will write something up for that when we get close to doing it.

Arazu – 0.0 Ratting Gallente Style

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

I faced this challenge not too long ago when Nam was caught with his pants down in the Outer Ring area. With a -7.8 sec status it was quite difficult to move on in the game as I didn’t want to focus on PVP then.

After reading posts from others about using a stealth bomber to rat I gave it a go. Three days I spent with that blasted ship and I learned something, 0.0 ratting was never meant to be done with a SB.

With some thought on the problem and some isk to burn I decided to go with an Arazu for the ratting. Good tank against the rats, decent DPS, and cloak.

Here is the fit I used to solo triple BS spawns in 0.0:

[Arazu, PVE]

3x Heavy Ion Blaster II (Antimatter Charge M)
Covert Ops Cloaking Device II

10MN Afterburner II
2x Heat Dissipation Field II
Ballistic Deflection Field II
2x Large Shield Extender II

Damage Control II
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
2x Shield Power Relay II

2x Medium Core Defence Field Purger I

4x Hammerhead II

Effective HP: 74,365
Tank Ability: 492.53 DPS
Damage Profile – Guristas (EM: 0.00%, Ex: 0.00%, Ki: 83.63%, Th: 16.37%)
Shield Resists – EM: 12.50%, Ex: 56.25%, Ki: 88.19%, Th: 87.67%
Armor Resists – EM: 57.50%, Ex: 23.50%, Ki: 72.38%, Th: 58.56%

Capacitor: Lasts 2m 48s

Volley Damage: 505.20
DPS: 161.50

Now as this is tanked against the rats I was facing out that way and the stats reflect that. Having the cloaked warp saved this ship more times as I can count, and it didn’t take long to get my sec repaired.

I would use different ships for this task had the system been more friendly, but given the challenge of local more than the rats this was the ship of choice.

I use a similar setup for PVP activities, actually 2 different ones I will share:

[Arazu, PVP]

3x Dual 150mm Railgun II (Spike M)
Covert Ops Cloaking Device II

Sensor Booster II (Scan Resolution)
10MN MicroWarpdrive II
2x Domination Warp Scrambler
2x Phased Muon Sensor Disruptor I (Targeting Range Dampening)

1600mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I
Damage Control II
Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II
Signal Amplifier II

2x Medium Inverted Signal Field Projector I

5x Hobgoblin II
3x Warrior II

[Arazu, PVP2]

3x Heavy Ion Blaster II (Null M)
Covert Ops Cloaking Device II

10MN Afterburner II
3x Large Shield Extender II
Warp Scrambler II
Stasis Webifier II

Damage Control II
3x Shield Power Relay II

2x Medium Core Defence Field Purger I

4x Hammerhead II

Hmm, This Might Not Have Been Worth It

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

So I have been ratting a lot these days working on getting our Military Index up. Our system has 31 belts so when you get the rats farmed correctly you can do quite well. I will say that our old 0.0 system had quite fewer belts, but they were quicker to get triple BS spawn going with high value, this new system, not so much.

We got the military upgrades inplace and there are a ton of CA’s around (I like that they respawn), but they are not really worth the ammo. We also got the ones installed to increase the CS chance and the ones we get are nice, but again for the amount of ISK/time put into the system we don’t really get more than 1 or 2 a day.

I am getting very bored of 0.0 ratting and I really don’t feel the need to invest in PVP type ships to lose to a bubble/blob. My low sec hangar is getting stocked and I am tempted to go pod someone.

For now I am back to my mission hub running L4′s, I need to get my Amarr standings up to anchor a tower in a .7 and be able to do it over and over again. Thanks to a nice storyline last night I am cruising at 3.46 right now up from 2.5x before the mission.

Leaving 0.0 (not if but when) will be easy just need to sell a Domi, Drake, and Enyo.

I can tell the girls are missing thei daily dose of Nam so I need to get back over that way quickly.

And We Have A New Toy

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

After much delay getting this jumped up we moved our IHub into place yesterday. For my part I got to play the webber role on the move since this thing can only move in a freighter.

Here is a pic of it online:

I might take some better pics if I have the time this weekend. We as a corp have also been ratting like crazy to get the military index up, after a 24 hour rush on it we finally hit index 2 and put our upgrades in.

Last nights tour of the belts ended with a CS run in system, not much loot, but we did snag a Gila print.

So Whats Going On These Days

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

Taking some time to reflect on my choices in EVE so far this year.

Namroc has gone back to his 0.0 home and Dark Ashes. This corp is the group I have flown the most with since I have been in game and I know several of the people directly. They are rebuilding since the corp closure that sent Nam into the Bastards. Currently we are *cough* renting *cough* from the NC, but once we get are numbers back up and the wallets fat we will apply to once again fly directly under the NC banner.

Larz this year has joined with the HellCats and HellHounds under the HellFleet Alliance and has made quite a few new friends. Although not a PVP character the joint experience brought to the table has been quite helpful and I have learned alot myself.

Larz is currently working on his research and industry skills with the goal of a high sec POS in the near future. Nam was going to grant Larz’s corp the standing required to anchor the tower, but since he has been recalled to 0.0 we will have to seak other means of getting the standings. I have pleanty of other corps I can jump into and use their tower structure, but a friend of mine has offered to move into my corp for the required time and that will grant me access to anchor the tower in the system of my choice.
